Ron Paul: On Iraq, vs Giuliani

This is how it all started.

This exchange with Giuliani started MAJOR media coverage for Ron Paul. Ron Paul has always - since the 80's at least - championed a non-interventionist foreign policy. At around 6:01 in the video, the moderator asks if 9/11 changed the non-interventionist policies. Ron Paul argues that more interventionism would antagonize our enemies. What happens when you get antagonized? Don't you want to right the wrongs done against you?

Another great point: Ron Paul brings up that the US is building 14 PERMANENT bases in Iraq bigger than the Vatican! What are we doing that for? And why didn't any one ever tell me that my tax dollars were headed over to support those bases?

Next, Ron Paul applies the golden rule. What would we say if China was building bases in the US? Wouldn't we be up in arms? Ur damn right we would. We don't even like French companies owning our Water Treatment Facilities.

So who among the Republicans or the Democrats brings up these subjects? Who in the media for that matter brings these subjects up? No one in my mind has ever mentioned these facts.

On a side note, the phrase "invited the attack" - as far as I know - comes from a book called Blowback, by Chalmers Johnson. I'ver read it. About 4 times. (Not cuz it's such a great book, but it's so difficult to read.) Blowback is on Ron Paul's reading list to Giuliani. It discusses how the US's foreign policy can incite hatred and vengeful acts against the US. And get this: it was published BEFORE 9/11.

Ron Paul: On Iraq, vs McCain

What I like about this video is the contrast between John McCain's argument Ron Paul's. John tries to manipulate people emotionally. "Let us win. Let us win" he quotes the troops in Iraq, as if Ron Paul is preventing them from winning.

Ron rebukes logically, with - gasp! - DATA! Ron's response is something to the effect of "if 'let us win, let us win' is the the prevailing sentiment, then why do I get more money from active military than any of you other republicans?" As an aside, the only person to get more money from CURRENTLY enlisted military is Obama. So what's the take home message? Obama is anti war (to an extent). Ron Paul is anti-war completely and unequivocally. Today's enlisted military is anti-war. If money talks, then it's sayin "Get us out of here!"

On another point, John McCain all but BLAMES the United States for the rise of Hitler. McCain IGNORES the effects of the Treaty of Versailles. John, don't blame America. Hitler wasn't our fault. Ron Paul should have used Giuliani's line and modified it and said, "I've heard some pretty absurd explanations for WWII. And I would ask the Senator to withdraw that comment and tell us he really didn't mean that."

Lastly, Ron Paul in the post debate interview correctly assess McCain's current political career. McCain has bet his entire career on the idea that the war in Iraq was a good idea. As data comes in saying that the war and the sure WASN'T a good idea, McCain's entire political career is in question, and he's scrambling to sell it to America.
